Icon opens with bergamot, pepper and geranium before moving through lavender, vanilla and vetiver. Cedar, star anise and ambroxan give the fragrance a lasting woody finish, creating a scent that feels fresh at first and warmer as it settles on the skin.

The concentrated balm is held in a compact sliding tin that fits easily into a pocket, desk drawer or travel bag. Warm a small amount with your fingertip and apply it to pulse points whenever you want to refresh the scent.

Why we chose it

We chose Icon as the fresher counterpart to the deeper, warmer character of Wayfarer.

Its opening citrus notes make it approachable for everyday wear, while the vetiver, cedar and gentle spice prevent it from feeling overly sharp or fleeting. It offers a useful middle ground for someone who wants a clean, woody fragrance but prefers something more nuanced than a conventional fresh cologne.

The compact solid format also makes it easy to carry and apply thoughtfully, without the bulk or overspray of a traditional bottle.

Solid State was founded in 2015 by award-winning barber and stylist Anthony Narsi, following a career spent between Melbourne and London helping people look, smell and feel their best.
