Camcorder Setup Guide
Welcome to your Panasonic HC-V800 Camcorder from The Minimal Studio.
Your camcorder has been prepared and tested prior to pickup, with an SD card already inserted and batteries fully charged. A spare battery and wall charger are also included with your hire.
The setup is intentionally simple so you can focus on documenting the moments that matter most.
Part of the charm of camcorder footage is its nostalgic, imperfect quality - clips may feel slightly shaky, grainy or softly lit in low light, and that’s all part of the look.
Turning the camera on
To turn the camcorder on, press the Power Button located near the back of the camera body.
Opening the screen will also activate the display automatically.
To turn the camcorder off, press the Power Button again.
Recording video
Using the camcorder is intentionally very straightforward.
- Open the screen
- Press the Record Button once to begin filming
- Press the Record Button again to stop recording
A small recording indicator will appear on screen while filming.
We recommend filming lots of short clips throughout the event rather than only recording key moments. Often the most meaningful footage ends up being the quiet, in-between moments.
Using the touch screen
The HC-V800 uses a simple touch screen menu system.
The screen can be used to:
- Review footage
- Change settings
- Adjust recording modes
- Access playback
You can navigate the menus simply by tapping the screen.
Zooming in and out
The Zoom Control is located on the top of the camcorder.
- Push toward T to zoom in
- Push toward W to zoom out
For the best results, use zoom gently and slowly. Fast zooming can feel shaky and distracting in playback.
We generally recommend staying wider rather than heavily zoomed in for candid event footage.
Photo and video modes
The Media Type Button allows you to switch between:
- Video recording
- Photo mode
For most events, we recommend keeping the camcorder in video mode for the majority of the evening.
Battery & charging
Your hire includes: One installed battery, one spare battery and a dual wall charger.
To remove the battery: Slide the Battery Eject switch and gently lift the battery away from the camera body.
To attach a new battery: Align the battery with the back of the camcorder and slide it into place until it clicks securely.
If the battery runs low during your event, simply swap to the spare battery provided.
We recommend charging batteries overnight after use if filming across multiple days.
SD card & footage
An SD card is already installed in the camcorder before pickup.
Please do not remove or format the SD card during your hire period.
Once your hire is complete, return the SD card inside the camcorder and we will transfer the footage and provide it digitally afterward
A few helpful filming tips
Short clips often feel more natural and nostalgic than long recordings
Softer lighting usually creates the nicest footage
Slow movements work best when panning the camera
Don’t worry about perfection - candid footage is often the most meaningful later on
Encourage guests to film throughout the evening, not just during formal moments
Some of the best footage comes from getting ready moments, guests chatting, hugs and greetings, dancing and behind-the-scenes moments that might otherwise be forgotten.
If you run into any issues during your hire period, please contact Bridget at The Minimal Studio and we’ll do our best to help.
